This test requires cat’s serum sample.
You will need 2 drops of the specimen.
Each kit contains:
- Test cassette
- 2 Disposable droppers
- Buffer liquid tube
- Centrifuge tube
- Instruction leaflet
You will need syringes to collect the blood. The test kit does NOT include blood collection equipment.
This test REQUIRES a blood centrifuge!
The FIP test can only be performed using serum. To obtain serum a home blood centrifuge is necessary for separating the blood components.
- Read the instructions carefully before starting the test.
- Collect a blood sample from your cat (syringes are NOT included).
- Separate the blood—this test works ONLY with serum. To obtain serum, centrifuge whole blood. Once the sample is prepared, the FIP cat test takes just 10–15 minutes to complete.
- Prepare the test: Remove the test cassette from the foil pouch and place it on a flat surface.
- Mix the sample: Use the enclosed narrow-tip 10-μL dropper to add 2 drops of the specimen (serum) into the buffer liquid tube. Close the tube and shake well to mix.
- Apply the sample to the test cassette: Open the tube and use the enclosed wide-tip 40-μL dropper to place 3 drops into the S (sample) window on the cassette.
- Wait 5–10 minutes and read the results.
The test is valid for 12 months or longer from the date of purchase.

FCoV to FIP mutation
Feline Infectious Peritonitis is a mutation of Feline Coronavirus (FCoV), a common viral infection in cats. Many cats infected with Feline Coronavirus (FCoV) show no symptoms, but some may experience mild diarrhea or temporary gastrointestinal issues.
In rare cases, FCoV mutates into Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), a severe and often fatal disease. However, only about 10% of FCoV infections progress to FIP.
Signs of FIP
In cats with FIP (FIPV), early symptoms are vague, including lethargy, decreased appetite, weight loss, and fluctuating fever. Over time, symptoms worsen. Most cats develop the “wet” form, where fluid accumulates in the abdomen or chest, causing swelling or breathing difficulties. Some cats develop the “dry” form, which leads to severe inflammation in organs like the eyes, brain, liver, and intestines.
Without treatment, most cats deteriorate quickly, although some may remain stable for a while. FIP is fatal without treatment, but only a small number of FCoV-infected cats develop clinical disease.

HOW DOES A-PET-CARE ONE STEP RAPID FELINE INFECTIOUS PERITONITIS (FIP) TEST FOR CATS WORK:
A-PET-CARE One Step rapid test kit for Feline Infectious Peritonitis Virus (FIP, FIPV) in cats is based on sandwich lateral flow immunochromatographic assay (LFIA). The test device has a testing window. The testing window has an invisible T (test) zone and C (control) zone. When sample is applied into the sample hole on the device, the liquid will laterally flow on the surface of the test strip. If there is enough FIP (FIPV) antigen in the sample, a visible T band will appear. The C band should always appear after a sample is applied, indicating a valid result. This means, the testing device can accurately indicate the presence or absence of Feline Infectious Peritonitis Virus (FIPV) antigen in the sample.
Results are ready in 5-10 minutes.
