Feline Coronavirus Antigen Test (FCoV Ag): | 96.7% | 100% | 98.5% |
Feline Coronavirus (FCoV), also called Feline Enteric Coronavirus (FECV), is a common viral infection in cats. Many cats show no symptoms, but some may experience mild diarrhea or temporary gastrointestinal issues.
FCoV to FIP mutation
In rare cases, FCoV mutates into Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), a severe and often fatal disease. However, only about 10% of FCoV infections progress to FIP.
Signs of FIP
In cats with FIP, early symptoms are vague, including lethargy, decreased appetite, weight loss, and fluctuating fever. Over time, symptoms worsen. Most cats develop the “wet” form, where fluid accumulates in the abdomen or chest, causing swelling or breathing difficulties. Some cats develop the “dry” form, which leads to severe inflammation in organs like the eyes, brain, liver, and intestines.
Without treatment, most cats deteriorate quickly, although some may remain stable for a while. FIP is fatal without treatment, but only a small number of FCoV-infected cats develop clinical disease.
Can Feline Coronavirus infect humans?
Feline Coronavirus is different from human coronaviruses and cannot infect humans.

WHAT IS FELINE CORONAVIRUS (FCOV, FECV) AND FELINE INFECTIOUS PERITONITIS (FIP):
Feline Coronavirus (FCoV) and Feline Enteric Coronavirus (FECV) is a highly common viral infection in cats. Infection is often asymptomatic, but a mild diarrhea or other symptoms of transient gastrointestinal illness can occur. While some cats and kittens are practically asymptomatic, others can develop a highly fatal multisystemic disease called Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). FIP is assumed to be caused by a mutation of Feline Coronavirus (FCoV). However, the probability of Feline Coronavirus developing into FIP is just about 10%.
HOW TO TEST YOUR CAT FOR FELINE CORONAVIRUS (FCOV, FECV) AND FELINE INFECTIOUS PERITONITIS (FIP) AT HOME:
Checking your cat for Feline Coronavirus (FCoV, FECV) at home is very simple. Just collect fresh feces or vomit sample of your pet with the included swab stick. Then follow the included instructions. From the moment you obtain the sample, the test takes about 10-20 minutes to complete. All the necessary equipment is included. After you perform the test, the results are available at place in 10 min. This is a complete ‘at home’ test, no need to send it out to the lab. Your VERY EASY TO USE nearby Coronavirus test for cats and kittens!
HOW DOES A-PET-CARE FCOV, FECV AND FIP TEST FOR CATS WORK:
A-PET-CARE One Step Feline Coronavirus (FCoV) test for cats is an antigen test and is based on sandwich lateral flow immunochromatographic assay (LFIA). The test device has a testing window. The testing window has an invisible T (test) zone and C (control) zone. When sample is applied into the sample hole on the device, the liquid will laterally flow on the surface of the test strip. If there is enough Feline Coronavirus antigen in the sample, a visible T line will appear. The C line should always appear after a sample is applied, indicating a valid result. Meaning, the testing device can accurately indicate the presence or absence of Feline Coronavirus antigen in your cat’s or kitten’s sample.
Results are ready in 5-10 minutes.
