REQUIRED SAMPLE
This test requires a dog’s feces or serum sample.
For testing, you will need one of the following:
- One swab of feces sample
- 3–10 drops of serum (a larger sample of serum makes testing easier)
WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE KIT

ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT NEEDED
If using a feces sample, no additional equipment is needed—everything required is included in the test kit.
If using a serum sample, a syringe and centrifuge are required (syringes and centrifuge are NOT included in the kit).
TEST INSTRUCTIONS
- Read the instructions carefully before starting the test. Once the sample is ready the Toxoplasma test takes 10–15 minutes to complete.
- Feces sample: collect cat’s or dog’s feces sample using the cotton swab. Refer to the instruction leaflet for proper sample collection.
Serum sample: collect a blood sample from the pet (syringes are NOT included). Centrifuge whole blood to obtain plasma or place it in a tube with anticoagulants to obtain serum. - Prepare the test: Remove the test cassette from the foil pouch and place it on a flat surface.
- Feces sample: insert the swab stick into the tube containing the buffer liquid and mix thoroughly to ensure proper sample extraction. Then, transfer 2-3 drops of the sample mixture into the S (sample) window of the test cassette.
Serum sample: dilute the serum sample at a 1:3 ratio using the provided buffer liquid and mix well. After dilution, place 2-3 drops of the sample mixture into the S (sample) window of the test cassette. - Wait 5–10 minutes and read the results.

The test is valid for 16 months or longer from the date of purchase.

WHAT IS TOXO IN CATS?
Toxoplasmosis is caused by Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii), a common parasite that infects warm-blooded animals, including pets and humans. Cats are the only definitive hosts, meaning the parasite can only complete its life cycle in them, though they often show no symptoms.
How Toxoplasmosis Spreads
Cats typically get infected by eating rodents, which carry the parasite. The parasite then reproduces in the cat’s intestines and sheds oocysts (eggs) in its feces. These oocysts can survive in the environment for months to years, potentially infecting other animals that ingest them. In rare cases, especially in cats with weakened immune systems, the parasite can spread to organs and cause symptoms like eye disease, respiratory issues, diarrhea, or neurological problems.
Toxoplasmosis can spread to humans through contact with infected feces, soil, or surfaces. Practicing good hygiene, such as handwashing, helps prevent transmission.
What Are the Signs of Toxoplasmosis
Although toxoplasmosis is common in cats, it rarely causes illness. Studies show that up to half of adult cats in certain regions have been exposed, with higher infection rates in stray or free-roaming cats.
Dogs and humans are intermediate hosts, meaning the parasite can spread within their bodies but doesn’t fully mature. In rare cases, it can cause widespread infection.

HOW DOES A-PET-CARE ONE STEP RAPID TEST KIT FOR TOXOPLASMA IN CATS AND DOGS WORK:
A-PET-CARE One Step Toxoplasmosis test for cats and dogs is based on sandwich lateral flow immunochromatographic assay (LFIA). The test device has a testing window. The testing window has an invisible T (test) zone and C (control) zone. When the sample is applied into the S (sample) hole of the device, the liquid will laterally flow along the surface of the test strip. If there is enough Toxoplasma Gondii antigen in the sample, a visible T band will appear in the window. The C line should always appear after a sample is applied, indicating a valid result. This means, the testing device accurately indicates the presence or absence of Toxoplasma Gondii antigen in the sample.
The test results are ready in 5-10 minutes.
