You will need 1 drops of the specimen.

WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE KIT

Each kit contains:

  • Test cassette
  • 2 Disposable droppers

ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT NEEDED

You will need syringes to collect the blood. The test kit does NOT include blood collection equipment.

The test can be performed with or without a centrifuge:

  • If using whole blood, you will only need a syringe.
  • If using serum or plasma, you will need a syringe and a centrifuge.
TEST INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Read the instructions carefully before starting the test.
  2. Collect a blood sample from the cat (syringes are NOT included). You can use whole blood directly as a sample. Alternatively, you can centrifuge whole blood to obtain plasma or place it in a tube with anticoagulants to obtain serum. Once the sample is ready, the FeLV test takes 10–15 minutes to complete.
  3. Prepare the test: Remove the test cassette from the foil pouch and place it on a flat surface.
  4. Add the sample to the test cassette: Use the enclosed narrow-tip 10-μL dropper to place 1 drop of the specimen into the S (sample) window of the test cassette.
  5. Add the buffer liquid: Using the enclosed wide-tip 40-μL dropper, immediately add 2 drops of the buffer liquid into the same S (sample) window, over the blood sample.
  6. Wait 5–10 minutes and read the results.
TEST EXPIRATION DATE

The test is valid for 10 months or longer from the date of purchase.

WHAT IS FELV IN CATS?

Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) is a contagious virus that weakens a cat’s immune system, which increases the risk of developing cancer, anemia, and infections. FeLV targets blood-forming tissues, leading to cell damage or genetic mutations that can result in cancer. While lymphoma and leukemia are common in FeLV-infected cats, the virus more often suppresses the immune system, leaving cats vulnerable to other diseases.

Symptoms of FeLV may include:

  • Weight loss
  • Fever
  • Poor coat condition
  • Gum inflammation
  • Frequent infections
  • Anemia
  • Intestinal inflammation
  • Neurological issues
  • Eye disease

Transmission occurs through prolonged close contact, as the virus is found in saliva, nasal secretions, urine, and feces. While FeLV is not highly contagious, it can spread through grooming, sharing food bowls, or fighting.

FeLV-infected cats face a poor prognosis, with 80-90% dying within three to four years. However, vaccination can help protect cats, and spaying or neutering significantly reduces transmission.

Can humans get Feline Leukemia?

FeLV only affects cats and is not contagious to other animals or humans.

TESTING FOR FELV (FELINE LEUKEMIA VIRUS) AT HOME:
Testing for FELV at home is very simple. First, collect your cat’s blood sample (syringes are NOT included in the test). Then you can either centrifuge the collected blood to separate serum from plasma, or use the whole blood as a testing sample. After you have obtained the sample, just follow the included instructions. From the moment you obtain the sample, the test takes about 10-20 minutes to complete. If you are planning to use serum or plasma, you will need a centrifuge. After you perform the test, the results are available at place in 10 min. This is an ‘at-home’ test, no need to send it out to the lab. This is your VERY EASY TO USE nearby Feline Leukemia test kit for cats and kittens!

HOW DOES A-PET-CARE ONE STEP RAPID FELINE LEUKEMIA TEST FOR CATS WORK:
A-PET-CARE One Step Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV, FLV) test for cats is based on sandwich lateral flow immunochromatographic assay (LFIA). The test device has a testing window. The testing window has an invisible T (test) zone and C (control) zone. When sample is applied into the sample hole on the device, the liquid will laterally flow on the surface of the test strip. If there is enough FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus) antigen in the sample, a visible T band will appear. The C band should always appear after a sample is applied, indicating a valid result. This means, the testing device can accurately indicate the presence or absence of Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) antigen in the sample.

Results are ready in 5-10 minutes.
