HOW TO TEST YOUR CAT FOR FIV AT HOME:
Testing your cat at home for FIV is very simple. First, collect your cat’s blood sample (syringes are NOT included in the test). Then you can either centrifuge the collected blood to separate serum from plasma, or use the whole blood as a testing sample. After you have obtained the sample, just follow the included instructions. From the moment you obtain the sample, the test takes about 10-20 minutes to complete. If you are planning to use serum or plasma, you will need a centrifuge. After you perform the test, the results are available at place in 10 min. This is an ‘at-home’ test, no need to send it out to the lab. This is your VERY EASY TO USE nearby FIV test kit for cats!
HOW DOES A-PET-CARE FIV TEST KIT FOR FELINE IMMUNODEFICIENCY IN CATS WORK:
A-PET-CARE One Step Feline Immunodeficiency Virus test for cats is based on sandwich lateral flow immunochromatographic assay (LFIA). The test device has a testing window. The testing window has an invisible T (test) zone and C (control) zone. When sample is applied into the sample hole on the device, the liquid will laterally flow on the surface of the test strip. If there is enough FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) antibodies in the sample, a visible T band will appear. The C band should always appear after a sample is applied, indicating a valid result. This means, the testing device can accurately indicate the presence or absence of Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) antibodies in the sample.
Results are ready in 5-10 minutes.

This test requires a cat’s serum, plasma, or whole blood sample.
You will need 1 drops of the specimen.
Each kit contains:
- Test cassette
- 2 Disposable droppers
- Buffer liquid tube
- Centrifuge tube
- Instruction leaflet
You will need syringes to collect the blood. The test kit does NOT include blood collection equipment.
The test can be performed with or without a centrifuge:
- If using whole blood, you will only need a syringe.
- If using serum or plasma, you will need a syringe and a centrifuge.
- Read the instructions carefully before starting the test.
- Collect a blood sample from the cat (syringes are NOT included). You can use whole blood directly as a sample. Alternatively, you can centrifuge whole blood to obtain plasma or place it in a tube with anticoagulants to obtain serum. Once the sample is ready, the FIV test takes 10–15 minutes to complete.
- Prepare the test: Remove the test cassette from the foil pouch and place it on a flat surface.
- Add the sample to the test cassette: Use the enclosed narrow-tip 10-μL dropper to place 1 drop of the specimen into the S (sample) window of the test cassette.
- Add the buffer liquid: Using the enclosed wide-tip 40-μL dropper, immediately add 2 drops of the buffer liquid into the same S (sample) window, over the blood sample.
- Wait 5–10 minutes and read the results.
The test is valid for 10 months or longer from the date of purchase.

Feline Immunodeficiency Virus Antibody Test (FIV Ab): | 94.9% | 97.4% | 96.6% |
Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) is a common and serious disease in cats that weakens their immune system, making them more vulnerable to infections. Infected cats may appear healthy for years before they show signs of immune deficiency. While there is no cure for FIV, infected cats can live normal lifespans if they are not co-infected with the feline leukemia virus.
Transmission of FIV mainly occurs through bite wounds. The infection progresses through three phases:
- Acute Phase (1-3 months after infection): Mild fever, swollen lymph nodes, and appetite loss.
- Asymptomatic Phase: Lasts for years, with no visible illness but occasional blood abnormalities.
- Progressive Phase: In this phase, secondary infections and immune system issues emerge, leading to chronic infections, dental disease, weight loss, and an increased risk of cancer.
FIV-positive cats can lead relatively normal lives with proper care, but the disease weakens their immune defenses, making them more susceptible to other health issues.
Can Feline Immunodeficiency virus infect humans?
FIV is species-specific and does not infect humans.
