You will need 2 drops of the specimen.
Each kit contains:
- Test cassette
- 2 Disposable droppers
- Buffer liquid tube
- Centrifuge tube
- Instruction leaflet
You will need syringes to collect the blood. The test kit does NOT include blood collection equipment.

Once the sample is ready, the Lepto test takes just 10–15 minutes to complete.
- Prepare the test: Remove the test cassette from the foil pouch and place it on a flat surface.
- Mix the sample: Use the enclosed narrow-tip 10-μL dropper to add 2 drops of the specimen (serum, plasma, or whole blood) into the buffer liquid tube.
Close the tube and shake well to mix. - Apply the sample to the test cassette: Open the tube and use the enclosed wide-tip 40-μL dropper to place 3 drops into the S (sample) window on the cassette.
- Wait 5–10 minutes and read the results.
The test is valid for 10 months or longer from the date of purchase.

Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that affects dogs, humans, and other animals. It thrives in warm, rainy climates and is most common in the Midwest, East, and Southwest U.S. The Leptospira bacteria target blood vessel cells, interfering with clotting and damaging organs like the liver and kidneys.
How Leptospirosis Spreads
Leptospirosis spreads primarily through urine, often from infected wild rodents. In some cases, dogs can carry and shed the bacteria without showing any symptoms. Additionally, Leptospira can survive for weeks or even months in contaminated soil and water, increasing the risk of exposure.
Symptoms of Leptospirosis
The severity of symptoms varies, ranging from mild to life-threatening. Common signs include:
- Fever and loss of appetite
- Vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration
- Increased thirst and urination
- Weakness, stiffness, and muscle pain
- Jaundice (yellowing of the eyes or gums)
- Small skin hemorrhages (petechiae)
- Eye inflammation (uveitis)
- Breathing difficulties in severe cases due to lung bleeding
Can Humans Get Leptospirosis?
Although rare, humans can contract leptospirosis through contact with infected urine. Early detection and preventive measures are key to protecting both pets and people.

HOW TO TEST YOUR DOG FOR CANINE LEPTOSPIROSIS AT HOME:
Testing your dog at home for Canine Leptospirosis (LEP) is very simple. First, collect your dog’s blood sample (syringes are NOT included in the test). Then you can either centrifuge the collected blood to separate serum from plasma, or use the whole blood as a testing sample. After you have obtained the sample, just follow the included instructions. From the moment you obtain the sample, the test takes about 10-20 minutes to complete. If you are planning to use serum or plasma, you will need a centrifuge. After you perform the test, the results are available at place in 10 min. This is an ‘at-home’ test, no need to send it out to the lab. This is your VERY EASY TO USE nearby Canine Lepto test kit for dogs!
HOW DOES A-PET-CARE ONE STEP RAPID TEST KIT FOR LEPTO IN DOGS WORK:
A-PET-CARE One Step Canine Leptospirosis (LEP) test for dogs is based on sandwich lateral flow immunochromatographic assay (LFIA). The test device has a testing window. The testing window has an invisible T (test) zone and C (control) zone. When sample is applied into the sample hole on the device, the liquid will laterally flow on the surface of the test strip. If there is enough Lepto (Canine Leptospira) antigen in the sample, a visible T band will appear. The C band should always appear after a sample is applied, indicating a valid result. This means, the testing device can accurately indicate the presence or absence of Canine Leptospirosis (LEP) antigen in the sample.
Results are ready in 5-10 minutes.
